Afghanistan Border

The dangerous situation in Afghanistan is likely to continue as long as the border between Afghanistan ad Pakistan remains as uncontrolled as it has been in the past. If the new government in Afghanistan is ever going to be viable, the flow of militant Muslims from Pakistan has to be stopped.
It seems the US Government is going about this task in the same sloppy, amateurish way it went into Iraq. More NATO troops are in Afghanistan than in Iraq, but probably not enough. More NATO and US troops should be sent in until they are able to seal the border. If it takes 100,000 troops, send them. If it takes 200,000 or 300,000, send them. No troops available? In a country (the US) of 300 million? And NATO with probably more than that? No money? In a country (the US) with a GDP of about 10 trillion dollars?
And then you’ve got to keep them there until the new Afghan government is firmly in control of the country. How long? Five or ten years or more? Okay. At the same time that Afghanistan is being brought under control, the Pakistani government will be learning a few things.
Militant Muslims are using Afghanistan as a home base. They are involved in a war against the West (especially the US) that they are prepared to fight for hundreds of years. It’s not rational, it religious. But they are serious. See the book “Knowing the Enemy: Jihadist Ideology and the War on Terror” by Mary Habeck, published in 2006.

Poor Sound Control on C-Span 2

Most of the tv channels we get--Suffolk County, Long Island, New York, Cablevision--have fairly good sound control. When you switch from one channel to some other channel, the sound in most cases will be at about the same level. But this is not true of C-span 2. The sound on C-span 2 is about one-half the level on C-span and most other channels. I don’t know whether this is caused by Cablevision or C-span 2.

But many other channels have more sound level variation than is desirable. Do any standards cover sound level from channel to channel?
